I'm Stuck

That's right, I'm stuck with knowing what to write in this blog post or, for that matter, what to write in my latest novel. No worries though, as I seldom plan out what to write until I actually sit down to do it. I suppose this is a bit unusual. J. K. Rowling once said that she had it all laid out in her mind what her Harry Potter series was about before she put it down on paper. That's amazing to me. However, there is something to be said for not having a map. It allows your subconscious mind to do the work for me and when I finally get down to it, the words just flow.

I'm currently working on a Young Adult novel called Fire Fire You're a Liar, a sequel to my first book, Please Tell Me Who I Am. At this point, I know the bare bones of what I intend to write but none of the details. It's kind of fun to write blindly. My subconscious knows better than I do where it wants to go. Right now what I've written so far is the very beginning, about a birthday for 16 year old Pepper who is Alexis' boyfriend. Where do I go from here? At this moment I don't have a clue but I soon will. I admit that it's a little daunting to face an empty page but it's not the same as writer's block, I'm stuck but only as long as I don't sit down to write. Once I do the ideas just flow through me quite easily and I can fill in the details as I go.

I know that this is unorthodox but it works for me. I'm currently re-reading Please Tell Me Who I Am because I do need to recall what details I've already included. I'm quite enjoying this task as it reminds that my way of writing actually works, for me. I do know someone else who uses this method to write and that is validating. Once I finish Please Tell Me Who I Am I will sit down at my computer and write my little heart out. Maybe I'm not truly stuck after all!
