Behind the Story - Please Tell Me Who I Am

This is a coming-of-age story set in rural Alberta in the mid 1960’s. Alexis was abandoned by her mother at the age of four and now lives with her father, a distant and demanding person. At the age of fourteen, Alexis does all the chores of an adult farm wife. The stress and isolation are held in check by her habit of self-harming, cutting. The minor injuries she imposes on herself helps to manage the pain in her heart, but with dire consequences. Her only bright spot is going to the library every week until a new librarian arrives. This woman, Agatha Stuck, takes great interest in Alexis, following her places and trying to engage her in conversation. Alexis will have none of it. When she objects, things go sour and her life becomes a whirlwind of suspense.
