Loving the Sunshine!

It's a beautiful day today and I just spent some time on the deck enjoying it. What dragged me in was my desire to engage with you lovely people.

In my last post I talked about the little ideas that can generate the writing process. I have another very interesting one to share with you. It was the impetus for my book, Please Tell Me Who I Am. Like Charlie, in Charlie's Dream (see last post) I am a prolific dreamer. It was in a dream that I was given a new name by an Elder, Blessing Waters, and I feature that in my upcoming book, Trees of the Lew Blessing Waters. So it was that I could take a name and build a book about it.

In Please Tell Me Who I Am, the name Agatha Stuck came through my unconscious self in a dream. I began by musing about who she might be. I actually let that simmer in my mind for a good few years before beginning the writing. At first I saw her as a Jamaican woman but I know so little about East Indies culture so I scrapped that idea. Next I thought It would be a great name for an Indigenous woman. However, I do not feel I am indigenous even though my great grandmother was thought to be. It would be inappropriate to try and write about an Indigenous woman. At that point though, I felt that I was getting a handle on just who Agatha Stuck was. I created her to live in rural Alberta in the 1960's, to be a librarian in a small town and to be both enigmatic and mysterious. My story grew around her.
